TAINUI PROGRESS LEAGUE
EXECUTIVE MEETING 'fhe monthly meeting of the executive of the Taiinii Progress Leneue was held on Monday evening. There was a good attendance of members. In the absence of ihe chairman Dr J. ,P. Dunlop (president) occupied the chair, and a very successful mooting followed. Appreciation was expressed of the satisfactory progress made by the Drainage Department of the Cite Council in the T ainiii area, the stoim-water scheme now nearing completion. The secretary was instructed to convey til the City Conned the league’s appreciation of tin' various improvements recent h carried out in this area. Special refer once was made to the slrtrni-water con nection af> the junction of Cranlcy and Cavell streets. Various appeals have been made to the City Council in ihe past rcgai ding this point, as for a long while Cranlcy street has been subjected to a Hood after every shower, the piping under the junction being insufficient to Cope with the (low of watei from Mnv-.elbiirgh Rise to this point. It was also decided to convey to the Rost and Telegraph Department the league’s appreciation of the telephone booth which has recently hern erected at the corner of Gillillan and Cavell streets. Cycling on the footpaths in the Tahiti! area was discussed, and the secretary was instructed to write the City Council .drawing att-mtion in this fact, and asking it to assert its authority in this direction. Appreciative remarks were made by several members ’regarding the completion of I lie now school at the low er end ol Cavell street, and as it is intended to open same at an early date the secretary was instructed to write the council regarding the various approaches, which it is imperative to have completed bet ore (he school is opened. 'fhe new school is well situated, and there is little doubt that, with the increasing population, it, will he well attended. With regard to the condition of footpaths in Rowen street (between Islington and Quarry streets}, and also tlm-c (Tom Royal crescent to Quarry .street, it was decided to write the St. KTTda Gniincil. asking if improvements could not, he carried out on these iinieh-nsod streets which connect with the Taiinna tram service. Regarding kerbing and channelling in the Taimii district, it was decided to write the City Council to ascertain how soon tin’s work is to lie carried out in streets in which storm-water drainage has been completed. Reference was made in the inadequate lighting in the various streets of Tainni. Although the league had received definite replies from the City Council to the effect that no additional lighting could ho installed during the present (iuaneia! year, the hope was expressed that the district would he allowed its full share when ihe next allocations were being made.
