[From Oue Cokuesponcksi'.] The potato competition inaugurated i' by the Alacandrew Bay Orphans’ Club i was brought to a close during the j week-end, the winner being Mr P. - Burt, with the weight of lOlb Ho/. Mr Culverwell was second with 111 lb, 3 and Mr A. ADHutelieon third with dlb. - That the competition caused consider- - able enthusiasm was evident from the > many who were present at a social ■ function held on Saturday evening for ■ the purpose of the presentation of the i prizes. The President of the Orphans’ 1 Club (Mr Vivian) spoke in apprecia- , five terms of the competitois, and in--1 timated that as a result the' local orphanages would benefit by a considerable quantity of potatoes. The association’s request for a clean-up week in the district having received favourable consideration from the County Council, it was resolved that a sub-committee consisting of Mr Malcolm and the secretary finalise all arrangements. Considerable discussion took place cm the question of hall alterations, and it was ultimately resolved Ilia l a sub committee go into the matter of plans and specifications and ropoit to next meeting. The matter of certain culverts to Mud Flat flooding during recent heavy rain and causing considerable damage to premises was discussed, and it was resolved that a deputation await on the local representatives of tic council with a view of having the work expedited. The arrangement of a suitable memorial service on Amac Day was left in the hands of the chairman, Messrs Free, Budd, and Pattrick. The matter of a street-lighting service in the district was further considered. Airs A. Stewart wrote that the Sunshine Girls’ Club would give a social and dance in the local bail on Easter Saturday on behalf of the association’s funds.
