CANTERBURY NOTES {Stbcul to the ‘Stab.’] CHRISTCHURCH, -March "(1. Gillctt’s two candidates lor the Groat Autumn Handi-cap—-Count Cuvuur and Amor—do most of their work together, ami they moved 'freely in a mile gallop this morning, though at no stage were they doing their host. Amor has? improved steadily all through this .season, and on Ins Trentham running ho may show up m tho Great Autumn, As for Count favour, his dhanco looks remarkalily rosy, after his second in the Trcntuaiu Gold l;np. ;Tlm Huwkd’s ’Bay trainer, L. Wilson.' arrived from tho north to-day wif.h Auda, My Own, ami Berncra, who are engaged at the Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting next week. Pink Note went well in a mile gallon with Battle Colours to-day. Thu Paper Money gelding has hail a few hard races lately, but he lias stood up to them in good style, and ho has never looked than he does at present. He is such a solid customer (hat his chance always has to be’ taken seriously, but he has not been a lucky horse at Riccartou. The Southland gelding Rin Tin Tin 100 kb iu capit.fi condition after his trip fo Trentham. He is a, speedy little galloper, hut at the weights Silver Paper looks a bettor prospect in the Great Easter Handicap. Nightmarch has two engagements on Tuesday, as he is in tho Challenge Stakes, as well as the Great Autumn Handicap. Ho is one of the po.yular fancies for the Great Autumn, but on (heir recent North Island form .Rapin' and Count Cava or both appear to hold him safely. Under the, circumstances ho may bo allowed to drop out of the mile and a-lialf race, with a view to contesting tho Challenge Stakes. Silver Paper was responsible for an attractive sprint to-day,, when he registered good time, while giving tho appearance that lie was not out to oo his Lest, lie looks in the best ol condition, and he will sot Ids opponents a merry task to go with him in the Great Easter Handicap. Raider has done no fast work since ho leturned homo from Trentham and Awapmn, and ho was given only pace work to-day. Ho looks a very (it horse as the result of his recent racing, and is likely to bo a pronounced favourite for the Great Autumn Handicap. Gay Sonnet is in good condition at present, ami but for tier- soreness, wldeii prevents her from jumping away smartly, she would have to ha reckoned with in the- Groat .Easter, as she can run out seven furlongs solidly It is probable that C. Kmerson will ride her, Chide made many admirers by the style in which he won tho Hororati on (Saturday. He will make ins next appearance on Monday in tho Sockburn Handicap, and he may race prominently despite the fact that ho has paid a substantial penalty for ms 1-Joroiv.ta success. f Beau Gestn bears a well-trained appearance. and having hud some racufg lately is well seasoned for his Great Autumn engagement. He is a much impreveri horse, and is likely to make a good showing iu the mile and a-halt event.
