THE FLOODS AND VOTING.

TO EDITOR. Sir, —There is no doubt about it that both the City Council and the Harbour Board have been lacking in making provision against the flooding_ of the people’s properties in this city. They do not seem to have profited by the experiences of the last flood six years ago, and many of the recommendations made at that time have not been carried out. In a month’s Lime the people will have the opportunity of appointing their members both to tho council and to the Harbour Board. If they are still satisfied with the present; members they will vote for them, but if they desire, as I think they do, to put new blood on both these bodies, they have now an opportunity of doing so. What 1 wish to point out, however, is that the present municipal roll is a disgrace to the city, and that there are some thousands of people in Dunedin eligible to vote who are not on the roll. Many people arc under the impression that the parliamentary and municipal rolls arc the same, and because they -voted at the last parliamentary elections that therefore they will be able to vote at the forthcoming municipal elections. That is not so, and it is the duty of everybody twenty-one years and over (not only ratepayer) to see that his or her name is enrolled, otherwise there will he no opportunity to vote. The supplementary roll will be closed in a few days, and' anyone desirous of seeing whether his name is on the main roll may inspect it either at the Town Hall or the Trades Hall.—l am, etc., March 27. E. Jones.
