PRESBYTERIAN SYNOD
ANNUAL MEETING REV. J. J. CAIRNEY NEW MODERATOR The animal meeting of the Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland was opened last night in First Church. The retiring Moderator (Rev. J. Chisholm, of Knox Church, Invercargill) preached the sermon, his text being “Was not our heart burning within us while lie spoke to us?" (Luke xxiv., 32). NEW MODERATOR. The first business of the evening was the election of a Moderator for the ensuing year, and the Rev. J. J. Cairney, of Ravensbourne, was elected to that office. Ho was welcomed by the retiring Moderator, who said he was sure that no minister was better fitted and none more worthy - than Mr Cairuey to fill the office lo which he had been elected.
