(Received March 26, at 10.15 a.m.V Tho Riga correspondent of ‘ Tho Times ’ reports that Lenin’s widow, writing to tho official Soviet organ, ‘lzvcstia,’ says. “Eastertide must bo made tho occasion of a great anti-God campaign. Greater efforts must bo made to fight the religious bodies, which are regaining more and more ground among the masses.” She announces that great preparations are being made, especially fop Easter Eve, when all the theatres, kinemas, and Soviet clubs will give special anti-God shows in order to attract the masses' from tho midnight services at tho Orthodox Church. ‘ Izvestia ’ states that the authorities in 1928 closed 654 churches, thirty-eight monasteries, fifty-nine synagogues, thirty-eight mosques, and fifty-three other religious establishments. Steps have already been taken to close an additional 253 this year. Ninety-five of tho churches that have been closed are being used as schools, while the remainder ae being utilised for clubs, places of entertainment, and boarding houses.—London 1 Times ’ Cable.
