HIGH COMMISSIONER
IDS WILFOF.D'S DENIAL {.Special to the Stak.’] • WELLINGTON, March 25, “ It is not true,” declared Mr Wilford, Minister of Defence, very emphatically when your correspondent informed him that a newspaper had announced his appointment to succeed Sir James Parr as High Commissionei m August next. Mr Wilford was very positive m his denial of the accuracy of this statement, which is probably founded on a suggestion persistently repeated since the formation of the Ward Government, that he was to be the next High Commissioner. Colour was given to these rumours by tho fact that the Minister of Defence is well travelled and has wide interests.
Evidently the question of the success sor to the High Commissioncrship has not yet been discussed by Cabinet,, though an early decision should ha made if the change is to take place at the end of the present, officer’s term. Possibly an extension will be offered to Sir Janies Parr in view of tho present situation in New Zealand.
