A fine turn of speed at .sea and adequate electric appliances for the speed;; handling of cargo in port arc characteristics of the motor ship. Zealaudie, which arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday to complete her loading for London. This up-to-date vessel is a sister ship to the Taranaki, also motor propelled. On the run from Falmouth to Bluff this voyage, which is her fourth, the Zealandic averaged 15.2 knots. Her twin sixcylinder motors are of the two-cycle type, and together they develop 7,500 horse-power. Four 400 h.p. Diesel engines (four-cycle) are used to provide the power for twenty electric winches and the ship’s electrical requirements generally. Captain jJ. H. Gaskell commands the Zealandic, and Mr H. V. Craven is chief engineer.
