An outbreak of lire which occurred at Eaton’s timber yards in North Sydney is thought to have been a deliberate attempt to destroy the property. Mr Corko (.secretary of the Timber Merchants’ Association) said he had received warnings that Raton’s and M'Konzie’s yards at Eastwood; where the fire occurred last Wednesday, would bo set on fire. (Received March 26, at 10.30 a.m.) There were further brutal assaults on loyal limber workers during the weekend. William Banks was set upon by a number of men at Glebe. (Reccvcd March 25, at 10.30 a.m.) The Central Stiikc Committee discussed the timber dispute during the week-end. It expressed apprehension that the key industries were --likely to become involved if a settlement were not soon reached, it intends to counsel the unions to avoid any extension of the strike, and it also advised the Sydney unions to refrain from burning the ballot papers or the judge’s effigy as threatened.
