PURCHASE OF WAIPORI NEGOTIATIONS FOR DISCUSSION Proposals by the Government setting out the preliminary details for the negotiations for the purchase <>t W aipori will be considered by the Electric Light and Power Committee to-morrow afternoon. ‘‘ On Friday,” said the DeputyMayor (Mr J. S. Douglas), “.the ■ Evening Star ’ said, in the course ol an editorial on Waipori, that ‘ the Government ought not to prolong the suspense. It should either confirm such hopes or dispel them once and for all, and allow the corporation to proceed- with its own development proposals, which, already belaud schedule time, have been hanging fire during the so-called negotiations. It is to be hoped that the publication of the documents will induce tnc Government to break silence.’ ”
“ I. can now state,” said Mr Douglas, “that since the last meeting of the City Council the Government has broken its silence.”
The proposals are the first step in the negotiations, and those outlined in the correspondence already published have been elaborated in a form that now opens them np lor discussion. It involved the sending of an officer to "Waipori to ascertain the possibilities of the lower power station, and also to investigate with a view to finalising the route and other factors in connection with the line irom Waipori to Oamam.
