SAWYERS BAY PROGRESS LEAGUE
The eighth meeting of the above league was held in the Public Hail. Those present were Messrs 11. D. Poison (chairman), T. Kettle, A. Skillbeck, C. Perry, J. Latta, J. Hews, W. Wallis, J. Mathews, P. Hewitson, Smolensk!, G. Throp, F. Pit hie, S. Gasper, J. Newsome, F. Logie. With regard to a letter from the Harbour Council rc a poll for lights on Roseneath, it was decided on the motion of Mr Throp that it be tabled till next meeting. The Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote asking the league to give its support by selling poppies on Poppy Day in Sawyers Bay. The secretary was instructed to write. to the, association for 150 Is poppies, the distributing of them to be left to the chairman and secretary. Mr Hewitson gave a favourable report on the Station road footpath, and he had written to the West Harbour Council, and had received a reply to the effect that 400 ft Gin x IJin hardwood timber would be supplied: also stones could bo used near the station bridge. The chairman, Messrs Wallis, Bews, Hewitson, and the secretary were instructed to go into the matter and obtain a report from the engineer of West Harbour. The secretary was instructed to write to the Waikouaiti County Council asking for a, light to be placed on the corner of Station ajid Half roads. Mr Pithie referred to the need of getting water laid on, and it was-decided that the chairman, .Messrs Riihief Perry, Wallis, Logic, and Hewitson meet to consider the matter.
