O.R.A. REGATTA

EARLY EVENTS The Otago Rowing Association’s regatta was commenced in fine weather this morning, tho competitors in tho early events having the advantage of tho tide and a slight north-easterly breeze. All crews were on their marks np to time, and no time was wasted at all in getting off the races. Tho course rowed over was from Wa verier Point to an imaginary line in the basin as the finish. The officials at' the regatta were; Messrs E- V. Eairbaini, P. J. Priest,; W. Glengarry, W. Robinson (judges), G. R. Coffin, (umpire and timekeeper), J. W. Smcaton (Press stewards). G. ; Duncan, J. Coltliorpc (shc-cl stewards) y S. G. Stychc (lion, secretary).

Results: — YOUTHS’ PAIRS. First prize, £3; second, £l. Im. P.C.R.C. (No. 1) £ O. (No. 1) 2 Also competed: P.C.R.C. (No. 2)1 and Q.D.B.C. Port got tho best start and led from the word “ Go.” They rowed a last pace and finished six lengths to the good. There was one length and a-halt between the second and third boats. Time, 7min Iscc. MAIDEN PAIRS, First prize, £3; second, £l. im. P. w J 0.8. C 2 Also competed: Q.D.B.C. (No. 2), N.E.8.C., and O.R.C. All crews got away together, and after about 50yds Port took the lead which they maintained to win by three lengths, there being tho same distance between second and third. Time, 7mi» 13sec.
