LAWN TENNIS

OTAGO V. NORTH OTAGO A representative lawn tennis match betwen Otago and North Otago was commenced at the Anderson’s Baycourts this morning. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was no wind. Otago fielded just about its strongest team, and the- morning’s play indicated that, when all the results were in, Otago would have a comfortable margin of points over the northerners. The morning's play was good, but not at all exciting. M‘Dougall and Black had little trouble in disposing of Sumpter and Mollison in two sets. Sumpter smashed on every possible occasion, and, though some came off, many did not, and anyway his intention was so apparent that the experience of the Otago men enabled them to _ play most of the strokes. Miss Baikie’s steadiness and backline play proved too much for Miss Pattison. Miss Baikie seldom let a ball pass, and her consistency wore Miss Pattison down. Following are the results to lunch; MIXED DOUBLES. Duthie and Miss AATiite (0.) beat K. Eamilton and Aliss Baikie (N. 0.), 6-3, 7-5. ' Boddy and Aliss Fleming (0.) heat J. Familton and Mrs Stewart (N. 0.), 6-2, 6-3. Bray and Aliss Partridge (o.)_ heat Afollison and Aliss Romans' (N. 0.), 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. _ . Rawlinson and Aliss Maloney (0.) beat L. AFKinnon and Aliss Alillcr (N. 0.), 64,* 2-6, 8-6. AIEN’S SINGLES. Boddv (0.) heat J. Eamilton (N. 0.), 2-6, 6-i), 6-3. ATEN’S DOUBLES.
