“This conference is strongly of opinion that payment of standard wages upon relief works is not in the true interests of the dominion or of the workers themselves, as the inevitable effect is stilljnrthcr artificially to attract Capital and Labour from the exporting primary industries ” This was the first remit passed by the Waikato Farmers’ Union preliminary to the Dominion Conference. Another remit favoured nationalisation of the main highways, and urged that construction work should be done by contract. In order to improve dairy produce the conference urged the GovernInent to appoint cream graders for dairy factories. The grading of pigs for export was also recommended. The need of more co-ordination in the marketing of dairy produce was pointed out in another remit. “The Shine of the Times,” Radium Pol ashes -Boots, Floors, Metals. Save coupons win a prize.—[Advt.]
