BANDSMEN'S CARNIVAL
A splendid attraction for those not leaving town during New Year week is the carnival held at St. Clair under the auspices of the St. Kilda and Tramways Bands. It has been decided to continue the carnival to-night, and during the afternoons and evenings of Tuesday and Wednesday. _ The object of the bandsmen is to raise kinds to enable the two bands to visit the band contest at Wanganui next year, so that those who attend the carnival will, in addition to enjoying all the fun of the fair, be assisting a worthy cause. “Throw downs” reminiscent of “ Chocolate Alley ” of the Dunedin Exhibition are prominent features, and there are other novelties to amuse young and old. Following are the results of the competitions held last week:— Poster competition (under sixteen years).—Orma Lysaght (Punty) 1, M. Weir (Court Chocolates) 2, N. Johnson (Crystal ice cream) 3.
