PARENTS TAKING HO RISKS CLOVEN HOOF IN “ ROMANCE.” Hiring private detectives to watch the movements of an engaged man and to search out the details of his past is tho latest device of parents who wish to make certain that their daughters are not being deceived by ’ scoundrels. A private detective agent revealed to the ‘ Sunday Chronicle ’ (London) that during the "past twelve months he has shadowed over 150 engaged men m order to furnish parents with reports on their conduct and habits. “ Sensible parents nowadays don’t take risks about their daughters’ happiness,” he said. “There have been so many cases where girls have been deceived by married men and fortune hunters that fathers feel that it is up to them not to take too much for granted and to have a few discreet inquiries made. - j SAVING UNTOLD MISERY. “There are engaged men walking about London to-day whose every movement is shadowed by a detective. From

FRAUD AND BIGAMIST. Recently a well-known society girl became engaged to a “ wealthy ” South American. Detectives were put on to watch him by the parents. It was then discovered that he was a convicted bigamist, and that he had also done a term of imprisonment for fraud.
