(Deceived December -7, at 9.d0 a.m.) The French vessel Marne saluted the Chinese gunboat Choyu in the Yangtsze River, off Nanking. The salute was in connection with the signing of the now tariff agreement between China and France. The Choyu, living the ensign' of the rear-admiral, returned the salute. Political circles commented on the fact that the French salute followed closely upon the twenty-one-gun salute given after Britain had formally recognised the Nationalist regime.
