I OTAGO V. WELLINGTON I ~ I t [Per United Press Association.] I WELLINGTON, December 27. Following tho rain of Tuesday night and the bad conditions yesterday, tho weather to-day is fine. The sky is clouded, and tho atmosphere somewhat t close, but indications are for bright sunshine throughout the day. An inspection of the wicket at tho Basin Reserve gives tho impression that it is in excellent order for the continuation of the Plunket Shield match, Otago versus Wellington. The match was continued in fine weather. _ Lnmason (52) and M'Girr (30) continued the innings, Eastman and A. ■ Alloo bowling. Runs came fairly freely, particularly from Alloo. The 300 was up' after twenty minutes. M'Girr reached 50 with a snick through the slips off Eastman, after being at the crease for fifty-two minutes. When the score was 316 Elmes relieved Alloo. Eastman was bowling steadily. With the total at 328, M'Girr returned a low one to Elmes, who accepted tho catch. The retiring batsman bad played a forceful > innings. _ Lambert filled the vacancy, but did not last long, being clean bowled by Eastman three runs later. Hoar followed, to see Lamason reach 70 with a single off Elmes. Hoar was bowled by Eastman before scoring. Lamason brought 350 up with a powerful pull to leg off Eastman. In the Englishman’s next . over, Henderson tlrove the bowler to mid-o(F. and a smart return by A. Alloo ran Lamason out. The innings closed at 12.11 p.m. Lamason played a very solid innings, marked at time's by enterprising batting. Tho bowlers commanded plenty of respect and the fielding was good all through. Knight and H. Alloo opened Otago’s second innings at 12.30, to the bowling of M'Girr and Hendcrsn. • With the sere at 11, Hoar relieved M'Girr and Badcock bowled from_ the other end. The batsmen were qniet facing the new bowlers. Badcock was bowling the leg theory After three maidens,_ Lowry took the ball from Hoar. AUCKLAND Otago will meet Auckland in the second Plunket Shield match of the season at Carisbrook, beginning on Monday and iu view of the Auckland team’s line performance against Canterbury, .and the fact that the Otago team has done so well against Wellington, there should bo considerable interest taken in this game. The Auckland team is captained by the well-known ' New Zealand representative player, Allcott, and includes such well-known players as E. H. Bowley, tho Sussex professional, J. A. Dunning (the New Zealand Rhodes scholar, who will be playing in Dunedin after the holidays), Horspool, Mills (well-known New Zealand representative player), Bowntree, and Gillespie. Special interest will attach to tho appearance of Whitelaw, the Grammar School boy, whose first season it is in representative cricket. Play commences each day at 11 a.m. AUCKLAND V. CANTERBURY 1 [Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH December 27. The Plunket Shield match was resumed in fine weather. The wicket was iu good order. _ Canterbury resumed in its second innings with two wickets down for 12. 'Brosnahan (5) and Page were the batsmen. Dunning's fifth delivery clean bowled Brosnahan, with the total at 16. Newman came in. Weir’s first over was a maiden. 'After steady play Page reached double figures, with 43 up, Allcott replaced Dunning at the south end, and Player replaced Weir. Scoring continued slow. At 60 Bowley relieved Player, and Newman played his fifth delivery on to his stumps. Hamilton joined Page, and both batted solidly, bringing 100 up after 110 minutes’ play.
