Widening Chamberlain street at the entrance to Queenls drive at a total estimated cost of £250, comprising £IBO for labour and £7O for material. Widening Cliff’s road at tho bend above tho Battery at a total estimated cost of £325, comprising £l9O for labonr and £135 for material. Levelling and turfing portion of th» Oval reserve at a total estimated cost ■of £SOO for'labour only. Tho men to bo employed on tho relief work, are to bo engaged through tho local Labour Bureau, preference being given to married men with dependents. Applicants must produce a certificate signed by a ratepayer to the effect that they have resided in tho city for tho past six months. Tho approval of the local public works engineer has to be given to all tho works before a start can bo made. Fifteen men who were engaged on Monday were given a start this morning, mostly on tho work of widening the top of Maori road from Adam’s street south.
