Girl shepherds hardly over thirteen brought 3,000 francs each for a year’s labour, plus two new dresses. Adult farm hands brought from 4,000 to 5,000 francs, with extra inducements.

Tho auction presented the usual colourful scene, tradition permits that every year, on tho day after Christmas, farm workers dissatisfied with their jobs may try their luck in tho market.—Australian Press Association.
