\ TRIAL MATCH On Saturday afternoon at Carishrook, the Otago B team (minus a couple of the selected players) which is to play Southland to-morrow*), and on Wednesday, engaged in a scratch game against a mixed team drawn from players not selected to play here or at Wellington during the holidays. The game might well bo described as holiday cricket, and at, times the fielding, particularly of the Otago team, loft .a good deal to be ,desired. Still, some fairly interesting play was witnessed during the afternoon, the Otago team making 134 (three of the players retiring). Cameron hatted very well for 47 (retired), his score including four 4’s. H© drove hard and played a sound innings. Claridgc also batted well for 30 (retired). Miller was the mo A successful bowler for the Rest, taking two wickets for 5 runs, while Cullen got three for 27. The Rest made a fair showing at the wickets, totalling 119, of which Gale made 48 by attractive cricket, scoring with nice shots to leg and hard drives through cover. Honesty, is suffering from a cold. He worked slowly. Plaster and Wine Tray were worked separately on the plough. Royal Saxon, who will be - ridden again by D.. M. Kerr in the Otago Handicap, was given a strong round on the plough, and took 55sec to run home over the last four furlongs. .. Set Sail and Lucy Locket were companions in steady work on the plough. The latter will be ridden in the Otago Handicap by P. Powell. Battle Scene and Broadfield took 53 2-ssec to run half a mile on the plough. Francolin, who does not look-at her best just now, was given steady work on the grass. ' Tembroney and Thurlow, who both look on the big side, were restricted to steady work on the plough. _ Page Boy. who moved and King Sol were also given steady pace work. . ' A number of others were given from slow to half pace work. - - One of his legs having filled, Troilus will not be a starter in the hurdle race either day.
