D.J.G. MEETING

ANTICIPATIONS FOR WEDNESDAY'S RACING [By St. Claib.] ‘ The Summer 'Meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club will commence on Boxing Day, and the excellent programme should attract a large attendance. The course is ' iir first-class order, and the form shown on Wednesday will be an excellent guide to the racing later on during the holidays. , The Railway Department has arranged an excellent service to and from the course, and the first race will commence at 12.20. The afternood’s . sport will commence with the Summer Hurdles. The last time Rangatahi dud Tunamoc met was at even, weights on the first day of the Timaru meeting; when the latter won by a couple of lengths. Since then Rangatahi haS won twice, and at a difference of Dibs he should turn the tables on Tunamoe. Carinthia does not like the going us hard as it promises to be oil Wednesday, -and Tunamoe. who is meeting Troilus on 41bs worse terms than when he _ boat him at Timaru, should do so again: A good field of ii dozen is likely to go to the post for the Salisbury HackHandicap, and with an experienced rider up, Arrowy will probably be sent out favourite. The field is not a strong one, and lie may find most trouble from Rage Roy or Rotorex, who, on Cromwell form, must be given a good chance. ■ A very pleasing response has been -made ! by owners in the Dunedin .Handicap, and a dozen two-year-olds are likely to go to the barrier. Ncdda with 8.12, has not been badly treated, and Francolin and Stealth each have good .performances oil the Wlngatui track to recommend their chances. Dutch .Money has improved, and of the lighter weights, Blue Metal has track performances to his credit. The winner will probably bo found amongst Nedda, Francolin, and Dutch Money. The held for the Otago Handicap has been reduced to half a dozen, but this is not surprising as the principal handicap races at the, Waikouaiti, Wyndham, and Invercargill meetings to follow, arc each richer, and several horses that were engaged in the Otago Handicap ..arc being reserved for these races. Rink Note, who, by the way, hijs won" in eaeli of his last three starts at Wlngatui, is now top weight with. 8.13.. He has not had a race since the New Zealand Cup meeting, and lor that reason may find Royal Saxon and Queen Balboa hard to shake, off at the finish. ; The thirteen in the Trial Stakes are not a good lot, and some of them who have raced . tins . season have nothing to warrant them being entered even in a maiden race at a much smaller meet- ■ in. Miss Marco was well fancied at tile Oamaru-Meeting, but failed over the, last six-hit "lot'furlongs, so should be more seriously troubled over seven furlongs. Filosol met with interference at the home turn in the same race, and was staying on well. He reads 1 Hie '.■■best;''!; and the ones most likely to -give him trouble may bo Wine Tray, who ran second to Amor over a miic at the Spring Meeting, and Lady Lizzie, who won a minor race .at the recent Cromwell meeting. _ ■-■/The host race of the day promises to bo the Federal Handicap, which has drawn a dozen useful sprinters, with Black Duke, who has been off the scene since last season, top weight. Ho may not bo quite ready just yet, but his stable mate Booster is, and with 9.6 he promises to be dangerous. Gay Sonnet made the opposition at Oamaru look very cheqp and found no difficulty 'in carrying 9.2. With only 41b more she looks - like being the hardest to beat, but if Rin-Tin-Tiii has returned to his two-year-old form she will find some trouble in standing him up 241 b; On paper neither Royal Tractor, Money Mine," nor Eaton Bells can have any chance with Gay Sonnet after the way she beat them at Oamaru, but King Balboa, won so well over a mile at Winton last month that he must be given a .chance. Circulation has not had a race this season, but if fit she must be considered. I think Gay Sonnet, Rin-Tih-Tin and King Balboa are the best handicapped of the field. Two winners the Oamaru Meeting in Meadow Lark and Killorna are likely to be the public’s first and second selections in the Burnside Hack Handicap, but Proud Knight beat a better class field whim lie won the Randolph Handicap at the New Zealand Cup Meeting,, and though risen 191 b in weight the furlong shorter distance should be all in his favour. ■ The day’s racing will conclude with the Otokia Handicap, in which two horses, Town Bank and Taboo, who do not like hard going, head the acceptances. On his Winton Cup form Apacho will be better suited with the shorter distance, but Camisader was unlucky, at Oamaru, and in a small field is sure to be dangerous. Kilmoylcr has no form to recommend him since he ran second to Light over a slow-run mile at the Napier Park Spring Meeting early this season. Camisader, Apache, and Kilmoyler may fill the places.

THIS MORNING’S GALLOPS A very heavy fog completely covered Wingatui early this morning, and did not lift until after 7 o’clock. It was the thickest fog trainers remember experiencing at this centre, and those horses which- were at work early, went right out of sight at less than. 100yds distance. Rotorex and Sarmia were galloped on the grass track, which was open for fast work.' It was impossible to tell how far they went, but they were travelling fast at the finish and there was nothing between the pair at the finish. Pink Note and Rotor went nine furlongs on the plough in 2min 0.2-ssec. The former will be ridden in the Otago Handicap by Brodie. Lady Lizzie and Lady M'Kinney finished-fast down the straight, the former doing the better. Tunanioe, who had three or four lengths’ . advantage at the start, Arrowy, Equerry, and Guncase finished in that order at the end of seven furlongs on the plough. The former looks very well, and a hurdle race is sure to go his way during the holidays. Dutch Moneii was sprinted down the straight, and will; be, one of the hard ones to beat in the Dunedin Handicap. Eaton Bells, and Salmo Solar were worked on the plough. Eangatahi was schooled over hurdles, the heavy atmosphere ; apparently affecting-his breathing. Night Lad,' who is not engaged on the first day sprinted, three furlongs on the plough* in,37 2-ssec, and did it welt. V- >'■„ t :■* v: ■ ' Tardy Stealth and Salmar were given three-quarter pace work on the plough. Black Duke and Booster covered four furlongs in 52sec, and the former had slightly' the. best of it at the finish. Best Policy, the four-year-old froni
