RUSH CONTINUES
RAILWAY TRAFFIC MAINTAINED The traffic rush on the railways continues, and if the present volume of passenger traffic is maintained fast year’s figures will be surpassed. Outward traffic has been particularly heavy, but while many Dunedin residents are spending their holidays in other centres, there has been a steady traffic inwards which promises to be larger than was the case last year. The 11.20 express to Christchurch last night consisted of twelve cars, and carried 300 passengers. The express from Christchurch, which reached here at 6.53 yesterday morning, brought in 250 passengers, and the train from Christchurch, arriving here at 6.24 this morning, comprised, fourteen cars which were filly loaded, 625 passengers being aboard. _ The 8.40 and 9.5 ex-, presses to Christchurch this morning each had twelve cars, carrying 400 passengers by each train. The 8.35 and 9 a.m. expresses to Invercargill carried 450 passengers in each instance, each train being comprised of eleven cars. The through express from Invercargill, due here mt'l] .19, was a little late in reaching Dunedin owing to the congested passenger traffic, and it had 600 passengers when it reached here, the same number leaving here for Christchurch. The 13.5 express for Christchurch had eight cars aboard, and carried 300 passengers. Heavy inward traffic is anticipated this evening.
