[From Odr- Own Correspondent.] There was a record attendance in the Macandrew Bay Hall on Thursday evening, the occasion being the annual break-up of the school. 'Hie ceremony commenced with a concert programme. Mr MTlutcbou, in tlie unavoidable absence of the chairman of the School Committee (Mr Bewley), presided. Tbo concert, as arranged, enthused the large attendance, and reflected great credit on the teachers, who had put a lot of time and work into the efforts of the pupils. The various items were all well rendered, special praise being given to the character song, * Nursery Rhymes,’ by the infant children and also the ‘ Coach and Four, 1 by Standards I and II pupils. The senior pupils gave a humorous rendering of sailors’ songs and chanties, which were very well received. After this the Chairman, on behalf of the committee, thanke’ the teachers for their meritorious and untiring efforts, and also the Orphans’ Club for the Christmas tree preparations. The numerous toys received were much appreciated by the infant pupils and juniors. Friday evening last was the date fixed for the Presbyterian .Church Sunday School annual Christmas tree and break-up, and despite a very stormy night the children mustered in full strength, supported by strong reinforcements of parents. The ball was tastefully decorated, and in the centre was a Christmas tree, well laden with a plentiful supply of gifts. The thanks of all are due to Miss M'Auly, Miss Benton, and Mrs. Scott for their effort in making such a fine display. The Rev. IV. IV. M 1 Arthur thanked the parents for their presence, and hoped they as well as tho_ children would have an enjoyable time. He then proceeded to distribute tlie gifts from the tree, and for over an hour the spirit of Christmas held full sway. Supper was then served, concluding a very enjoyable evening. On Sunday, at the morning service in the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. IV. IV. M'Arthur preached a sermon on ‘ The Value of Prizes,’ and at the conclusion of the service he presented the Sunday school attendance prizes. The superintendent of the Sunday school (Mr Pirrett) thanked the members and friends of the congregation for their generosity in providing the means for the Christmas tree and attendance prizes. A prayer was sung for the speedy recovery of the King.
