N.G. Bro. Hartstonge pi-sided t er the annual summoned meeting of Loyal Centenary Lodge, lit which there was a fair attendance of members. The election of officers resulted: N.G., J3ro. Pearce; V.G., Bro. Butcher; E.S., Bro. Carruthers; G.M., Bro. Hartstonge; Warden, Bro. Peake; Guardian, Bro. Hade. P.P.G.M. Bro. P. Stabb acted as installing officer, and was assisted by visiting P.G.’s. It was resolved to forward a letter of thanks to the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge for the latter’s donation to the dispensary fund. Visiting brethren from Lake Coleridge, Albion, and, Hand and Heart Lodges acknowledged the' toast of “ The Visitors.”
The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Outram Lodge on Monday evening drew an excellent attendance of members. N.G. Bro‘ M‘Kenzie was in the chair. It was reported that the sum. of £lO had been raised as the result of a dance in aid of a distressed member, and a grant of £lO had also been received from the district fund, it was also decided to pay this member’s contributions for the year. Three candidates were initiated, making a total of twelve for the half-year. P.G. Bro. Kidd reported on the old members’ reunion, held in the Hand and Heart Lodge. Next lodge meeting falling on New Year’s Eve, it was decided to adjourn until January 14. The election of officers resulted: G.M., Bro. M’Kenzie; N.G., Bro. E.' Snow; E.S., Bro. H. Walker; Warden, Bro. Richards; Guardian, Bro. Smith. The new officers were installed by Lecture Master P.G. Bro. R. B. Neill. ' The fortnightly meeting of the Upper Clutha Lodge was well attended by members. Two candidates were initiated into the lodge. The following officers 1 were elected for the ensuing term; —N.G., Bro. G. Atkins; V.G., Bro. Lee; E.S., Bro. Morris; Warden, Bro. J. Dickie; Guardian, Bro. J. Scurr, jun. It was decided to hold the installation ceremony on January 10. At the summoned meeting of the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge on Tuesday evening there was a good attendance of brethren. Two candidates were initiated and one proposition for membersly p was received. The election of officers was then proceeded with, the following being appointed:—N.G., Bro. Lyall; V.G., Bro. Creighton; G.M., Bro. Campbell; E.S., Bro. Thomson; Warden, Bro. Stephens; Guardian, Bro. Craig. The officers were installed by tlie P.D.G.M., Bro. P. Young, and suitably returned their thanks. Visiting brethren from the 'Loyal Lodge assisted in the installation. The annual summoned meeting of the Loyal Albion Lodge was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street, on Thursday, evening, when there was a large gathering of members and visiting brethren. One candidate was initiated, one proposition for membership being also received. The election of offleers was then held, resulting as follows :_N.G., ’Bro. E. -Downes; V.G., Bro. G. Wilson; E.S., Bro. C. Sehmeltz; G.M., Bro. W. Longworth; Warden, Bro. Landrebe; Guardian, Bro. Broadfoot. Tbo lodge was favoured with a visit from the members of the district executive, beaded by P.G.M. Bro. Johnston, and tbo installation was carried out by these officers and visiting P.P.G.M.’s. The retiring auditors and trustees were reelected. A strong Social Committee* was also appointed. \t the conclusion of the annual meeting of tbo Loyal Albion Lodge on Thursday evening, some hundred odd members of the order attended a social function held in honour ot i .1 -G.M. Bro. W. Sullivan, who is leaving the Otago district to reside in Wellington.' The esteem in which Bro. Sullivan is held was indicated by .the representative attendance, which included the P.G.M., Bro. J. Johnston, P.D.G.M. Bro. P. Young, P.G. secretary Bro; J. Hopcraft,?. T. Bro. A. Sligo, P.P.G.M. Bro. Stabb, and representatives of the city and suburb... lodges. The P.G.M., in calling upon Bro. Sullivan to accept a presentation from the members of the executive, and the Past Provincial Grand Masters of the Otago district, referred in appreciative terms to the recipient’s good work; not only as secretary of the Albion Lodge, but also as a district officer. Bro. Sullivan had made an ideal secretary in a district which was fortunate in the calibre of its lodge secretaries. A feature of his work was the services rendered on the various committees of the district, and ho was recognised as an outstanding committeeman. The presentation took the form of a smoker’s stand and a cigar case. The remaining members of the executive and* a largo number of P.P.G M.’s also paid tribute to Bro. Sullivan, the P.C. secretary, Bro. Hopcraft, mentioning the high standard of his secretarial work. The P.G.-M. also read apologies from P.P.G.M.’s Bros, Wyllie,' Cable, and Crawford, who wrote conveying their best wishes-to the guest of the evening. P.P.G.M. Bro. Stabb then made a presentation on behalf of the Loyal' Albion Lodge of a travelling rfig for Bro. Sullivan, together with a toilet set for Mrs Sullivan. Bro. Stabb first paid a personal tribute to Bro. Sullivan as a friend, and then referred to his faithful services as secretary of the lodge, and his high standard of Oddfellowship. Bro. Sullivan’s health was drunk with musical honours, and ho was heartily cheered. In responding, Bro. Sullivan thanked members for their presents and good wishes. If his services to his lodge and the order were appreciated and had resulted in benefit to the district, then he also had benefited as an Oddfellow. He bad had the privilege of forming many valuable friendships, and bo would always have very pleasing recollections of bis associations with the Otago district. He would like also to acknowledge the assistance and support he had received from Bro. Stabb, when he first took over the position of secretary. Bro. Stabb had sot a high standard, and ho (the speaker) had endeavoured to maintain that standard. P.P.G.M. Bro. Lawry, in paying tribute to Bro. Sullivan, mentioned that ho had visited several brethren at present in hospital, and they had desired him to convey to Bro. Sullivan their good wishes. A number of visiting brethren also conveyed greetings from their various lodges. The function was brought to a close with the singing of ‘ Auld Lang Syne,’ and cheers for Bro. and Mrs Sullivan. The annual summoned meeting of Hie Loyal Caversham Lodge was held on Wednesday evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Forbury Conmr, when-the N. 6., Bro. Jackson, presided over a large attendance of members. Oim candidate was initiated. It was resolved to forward to Bro. T. K. Sidey a letter of congratulation on his appointment to the leadership of the Legislative' Council. The P.G.M., Bro: Johnston, P.D.G.M. Bro. Young, and P.P.G.M. Bro. Stabb were welcomed, and latei installed the following officers:—N.G. Bro. Mowatt, V. 6., Bro Roy, E.S. Bro. Fay, G.M., Bro. Jackson, warden Bro. Woodhouse. bership campaign, hey havipg initiated close on fifty new members for the year. He expressed pleasure at the retimi of P.P.G.M. Bro. Lawry, who had been on the sick list. P.D.G.M. Bro. Young and Bro. Stabb also responded, the latter acknowledging the assistance and support accorded him by the Caversham Lodge during his term as a district officer. It was decided to hold the first meeting of the new year on January 10.
