IMPERSONATED' POLICE OFFICER
YOUNG MAWS " ABERRATION [l’ek United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, December 21. A young man, A. M. Putan, was cliargecl in the Police Court with obtaining credit of 64s from a, taxi driver by fraud. Accused, who was employed in the - culinary department of an hotel, had been drinking and >rot a taxi driver to drive him to New Lynn, about twelve miles. He told the, driver ho was an inspector of police, prosecuting'important inquiries,. and ho kept tho driver waiting there for two hours to drive him back- to the city. He then, told the driver to call at the police station for his fare. . Accused, in answer tn_ tho magistrate, said ho did not think ho could have been in his right senses. Mr Hunt, S.M., said accused was no doubt suffering from aberration owing to a recent illness, and ho imposed a “fine of £1 and costs fob obtaining credit by fraud, 1 and convicted and discharged" him on a charge of impersonating tho police.
