SANDERS CUP
HEW CONDITIONS SUGGESTED CONFINED TO YOUTHS UNDER 21 [Pus United Press Association,) AUCKLAND, December 19. Uploss future contests for the Sanders Memorial Cup are confined to youths undo twenty-one, the Royal Now Zealand Yacht Squadron, which Ims always supported tho competitions in tho past, will not continue to do so. This intimation was received at a meeting of the Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association last evening, and caused considerable discussion. The Chairman (Mr O. Moller) said the suggested change in tho conduct of the contests was vital, and could not be dealt with by the association there and then. It would be necessary to refer tho matter to various clubs. Ho was sorry the Squadron could not see its way to give the same financial support as formerly. This year the club had reduced its contribution to £lO 10s. compared with £2O last year. Mr W. A. Wilkinson said tho opinion of the squadron was not that of other clubs. Mr Codings moved— That a pro forma remit be sent to the competing Sanders Cup provinces, suggesting that future contests should be confined to crews under twenty-one years.”
An amendment by Mr Wilkinson—- “ That the matter he referred to the delegates for an opinion ’’—lapsed for want of a seconder. When the question of financing the 1929 contest was dealt with, it was agreed that all members of the chosen crew over twenty-one, he asked to contribute £5 each towards the cost. The first of the scries of trial races to select tho Auckland representative will be held to-morrow evening. The boats are Val. Rona, and Avalon.
