POLAR FLIGHT
SIR HUBERT WILKINS AWAITING FAVOURABLE WEATHER Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON. December 18. (Received December 19, at 9.5 a.m.) A copyright message from Sir Hubert Wilkins at- Deception Island, dated December 18, states: “Our seaplane, fully loaded, is lying at anchor ready to start at a moment’s notice on the hoped-for adventure. A watch is being kept from a hill at tho harbour mouth, but the drifting ice entering the bay has ruined any chance of taking off. However, a short flight was made in the plane San Francisco, which is now fitted with wheels. In the course of the flight we climbed 6,000 ft, and as far as the eye could see were unbrokeu clouds. It is useless to proceed under the present conditions. The indications are for an improvement.’’—Australian Press Association.
