Miss Joachim is back from her travels abroad. ' Airs Manky, of Auckland, the wellknown Auckland writer, is at present in Dunedin Visiting relatives. Airs Frank Dunlop and her family have left for Stewart Island. Visitors hers in connection with Miss Nancy Barr’s wedding are Air and Mrs Peacock, the Misses Peacock, and Mr and Airs Graham Vaughan, of Sydney. Airs Williams and Aliss L. Williams are hack from England and the Continent.. The Alisses Matthewson, Leith street, left by the express on Friday tor Palmerston North, Air and Airs H. J. M'Gcorge, of Temuka, have been guests of Mrs J. C. Al’Goorge’s, “Avalon,” Alornington. Last Thursday evening, Uth, in Messrs Chas. Begg and Cc.’s concert chamber, the pupils of Miss Mary Martin entertained their parents and friends with a programme of pianoforte solos, duets, etc. Vocal items were contributed by Miss Anna Alathcson and Air Allan Simpson.

The “break-up” of the B.S. Reynoids Kindergarten took place last Week, when there was a large attendance of parents and friends, the subcommittee being present also. Afrs G. AlT.cau and Canon Button made happy little speeches, in which they congratulated the staff under Miss d’Auvergno or. the splendid results of their work. Light refreshments were later supplied for the happy little pupils.

The other day Lady Ferguson gave a delightful garden party for members oc the gardening circle of the Otago Women’s Club, and the committee of the play-rending circle. A wander round the beautiful grounds, an examination of some of the fine collection of curios, and an excellent- tea made. the afternoon pass all too quickly.

The annual break-up of Aliss Tui Hutton’s junior pupils was held at her studio in Roslyn lust Saturday. After items by some of the pupils, the prizes were distributed by Airs Hutton, Then all adjourned to the dining room, where a most enjoyable time was spent, Hie pupils doing full justice to the good things on the table.

Airs J. C. Al’George gave a dance at her residence, Avalon, on Wednesday evening in honour of her daughter Noel’s birthday. Amongst the guests were Mr and Airs H. J. Af'George, Air and Airs Eric Miller, Mrs R. S. AI. Sinclair, Alessrs MTvechnie, Satmond (2), Jeavons, Gowland, Drew, Shortt, M‘George (0), Schofield, AFGregor, Langford, Paterson. Bowron. Thomson (2), and Misses Al'Gcorgc (4), Salmond (2), Jeavons, Inglis, Schofield, Clark, Samson,. Paterson. Reid, Ewing,. and Thomson. The supper table was decorated with pink pryretlienms and fern. Dancing continued vncrrily until the small hours.

Viscountess Hampden, the Hon. Barbara Brand, and Aliss AI. Alartin-Smith were guests at the Elbow Hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week. The party spent a day’s fishing in the Oreti, and the -members were successful in securing good hags. OiPThnrsda.y they were joined by Viscount Hampden, Alessrs G. R. Ritchie, and W. 0. M'Kellar. and proceeded to Te Anau and Alanapouri. The ladies of tiio party thoroughly enjoyed their stay in Lnmsden, and spoke highly of the sport they received in the Orel!.

An interesting little programme was presented before mothers and friends at Aliss Pearce’* nursery kindergarten at St. Clair on Friday afternoon last. The ages of the ranged from two to four years, and in the many nursery rhymes they sang they showed a wonderful sense of rythm for such tiny tots. Posters and hand work done by the pupils were displayed, and showed that the children have a busy and happy time under their leader. A Ter the demonstration about fort y small children. had a jolly tea parly. The school will reopen oil February 4.

Airs G- E. Thompson and Mrs A. C. Hyde; were hostesses on-Saturday morning at the Tudor Hall at a tea party given in honour of Airs Drennan, who will leave the dominion early next year for the Old Country. Among the guests were Lady Ferguson, Lady .Williams, Mesdames Stanley Batchelor. IT. E. Barrowclough, Gordon Bell, Benson, Cook, Dunlop, Fitchett, Glendining, Gowland, Hewitson, Tvornch, Bilev, Ross, Skinner. Throp, lizard, Alisses Austin, Fairhairn, Kelsey, White, Williams, and Professor Strong.

Several members of the Kia Ora Concert Party visited Waitati recently to assist in the school “ break-up ” concert. The Kia'Ora’s part of tho. programme consisted of vocal solos by Misses Alvra Andrews, Jessie Pratley, Air Bert Allen, Air Ray Pratley; and Alessrs Bert Allen and Bay Pratley gave a humorous duet. All the performers received enthusiastic receptions, especially the last-named, who took the audience by storm. At the close of the concert the chairman of the School Committee thanked tbo visitors for their valuable assistance. Air Ray Pratley suitably replied on ‘behalf of the artists.

Mrs Roland Fulton’s bridge party at the Tudor Lounge on Monday evening was a great success, tho room being as bright as possible with lovely flowers, Among the guests were Alesdames Pontifex - (of England), De Clivo Lowe (Auckland), AlarshalL Alacdonald, L. Wison, Odhani, S. Batchelor, Riley, Finch, G. Gallaway, Hutchison, E. Hazlett, Edmond. Black, Fergus, Hislop, Matheson, Hilton, Halstead, D. Ramsay, L. Mills, Sim, Scheret, F. Fitchett, Do Clive Lowe, Jenkins, T. Bridgeman, Haggitt, Barron, Hanlon, R. Hudson, J. W. Smeaton, Harfy, Evans, Finlayson, Duncan, Alisses Williams, Cook, Halsted, Hazlett, Finch, Wilkin, G. "Williams, and Best (of Melbourne) .

Mrs Bulto’s absence has been much felt not only by her private friends, hut by her colleagues on the various committees of which she is a member. A “ welcome homo ” afternoon was given in her honour on Saturday at tho Women's Club, Lady Ferguson sending apologies for her unavoidable absence, and congratulations on the safe return of the'guest. Among those present were Alesdames H. Chapman, Oaten, Walter Ross, Angel, Idiens, and J. AlacDonald, Aliss R. Aslin, E. Service, E. Jackson, Nicolson, and Grant.

On Alonday night at the Women’s Chib Aliss Ida Whiio gave a most enjoyable party for her pupils and some, other friends. On behalf of the students Aliss Esmo lienthani presented Aliss White with a beautiful bouquet of roses. Much-appreciated songs were given by Alisses L. Samson, AI. -Sawcrs, J. Chisholm, T. Harraway, E. Nimmo, and Mr lan Rutherford. Aliss AI, Service gave a pleasing piano solo, and Alisses E. Harraway and Pierce were much applauded for their concerto on two pianos. The “Treble Clef Choir” sang several delightful songs, while a musical competition (won by Aliss Bentham) served to make the numerous guests circulate. Among those present were
