SYDNEY WOOL SALES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, December 17. The wool sales were resumed, the demand for free, well-grown wools being well maintained. Lines showing special fineness wore keenly competed for, principally by the French. The market generally was ver.y firm at the closing rates of last series. Greasy merino sold at 40d. The bales sold totalled 11,858. grain AND PRODUCE. ’■ Messrs Donald Reid and Co., Ltd., report:— Wheat.—Very little interest is being displayed at present by millers. A few samples are still being submitted _ by Canterbury merchants.. - and odd lines are changing hands. Fowl wheat market is steady; a fair quantity is still held by merchants and growers in Canterbury. Very little of this is coming this way, local poultry feeders preferring to buy better quality wheat ex store, Dunedin, Milling Tuscan value remains at 5s 9d (sacks extra), on riuck, country stations. Oats.—No inquiries were received during the past week. An odd sale for feed purposes of limited quantities is the only business passing. Unless a demand arises from some outside quarter there, will undoubtedly be a fair carry-over till next year. This prospect is already having a weakening effect on the market. Nominal values are:—A grade 3s 3d, B grade Cs 9d (sacks extra), on truck, country stations. Chaff.—There is ample arriving to cope with the restricted demand usual at this time of the year. Prime quality alone is required, and this grade can usually be disposed of ex truck. Medium ; and inferior are hard to sell, and owing j to storage space being required for | wool these qualities can only be sold at ■ a much reduced rate. Prime is worth ' £5 15s ex truck (sacks extra), Dunedin, j Potatoes—No old potatoes are left | on the market. There has been a wonderful clean up this year -verything fit for consumption being disposed of. New ones are arriving freely, although the wet weather has hindered digging during the past week. It is expected that plenty will be available for the extra demand at Christmas time. | Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., re-; port:— ' Oats.—For what oats there are about the market is still dragging, and, with the absence of any offerings of grade oats, it is impossible to quote values. There are still some inquiries for feed purposes, but now this quality appears to be in small compass. Wheat.—There is no milling quality offering, and from reports from the country it can now be safely assumed that all wheat is out of growers’ hands. The quantity of fowl wheat being consumed is steady, though not large. Good quality is realising 6s 2d, ex store. Chaff.—With all the available space being required for wool purposes, consignments of chaff have to be sold ex truck. Canterbury has to be drawn on for all parcels. Prime quality is realising £5 15s, ex truck, with inferior grades hard to quit. LONDON PRODUCE MARKET. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last week: — Butter.—Firm; 182 s to 186 s per cwt. Cheese.—Steady; white, 96s to 98s per cwt; coloured, 98# to 100 s. Frozen Meat.—The market for wethers and ewes is dull, and for lambs the market is depressed owing to the . absence of demand. The beef market I is firm, but there is little busirjf.ss do-. ing. Wethers, light 53d to 7d per _ib, j heavy 5d to 53d; ewes, Sjjd to od; ; lambs, twos 9Jd to 9|d, eights O.id to j 9£d, fours 9d to 9id, seconds 7id to 8d; ox hinds, 4.\-d to 4Jd, fores 33d to 4d; , cow hinds, 4<l to 4:\d, fores Sid to 33d.
