“MARVELLOUSLY GOOD"

DUNEDIN GiTY MANAGEMENT COMPLIMENT FROM PREMIER [From Our Parliamentary Repokper.] WELLINGTON, December 13. Some very happy references by tlie Hon. W. B. Taverner to the rallying of the old Otago Liberals to tho United banner, produced from the Prime Minister at his complimentary dinner a high compliment to Dunedin. Mr Taverner assured tho Prime Minister that- the southern part of New Zealandwas pleased that tho Mayor of Dunedin stood so higu in tho estimation of Sir Joseph Ward as to bo selected to bis Cabinet, and he took that opportunity of offering his personal thanks for the honour which had been conferred. “It is a great somco of gratification,” replied Sir Joseph, “to have oa my right the Mayor of Dunedin. Tho government of Dunedin city is marvellously good, and I do not believe any city in the dominion can take offence at my saying it is one of rho best municipalities in New Zealand. This is due to men like Mr Taverner who have done in the most practical way all that is required for the residents of that beautiful city.”
