OUTSTANDING ATTRACTIONS
COMING TO REGENT THEATRE Pictures and vaudeville of an unusually high standard will ho presented at the Regent Theatre, commencing to-morrow. ‘ Tho Showdown,’.a powerful drama with George , Bancroft, Evelyn Brent, and Neil Hamilton in the leading roles, will be tho premier attraction. Played in the remote districts of Mexico’s back country, whore every mon is a potential enemy, ‘ The Showdown ’ finds Bancroft playing tho rolo of a wandering oil driller. Into his lifc.como three men who have followed him from one field after another, because they know ho has a sixth sense which tells him where oil can bo
found. As the struggle between Bancroft and his rivals settles into grim and deadly earnest, a girl suddenly arrives, fresh from fhc refinements of New York. The situations which develop from the presence of a gently nurtured girl in this wild spot form, a drama in which Bancroft’s genius as an actor -shines. The irrepressible Bebe Daniels will be .seen in a breezy comedy entitled ‘Hot News.’ A lifetime of brills crowded info one hectic week well describes this picture. Careening through tho air in a breeches hnoy, a sinking ship at one end of tho line and her deadliest rival on the other, a fight with a jewel thief on his yacht at sea, a mad escapade in a speeding automobile, a clash with a super-sensitive rajah at a garden party, and a love scene on the Statue of Liberty’s eyelashes, are just a few of the things that Bebe Daniels went through during the making of ‘ Hot Nows.’ She plays tho part of a newsreel camera girl, whose quest for news of the most torrid, variety loads her into al sorts of dangers and complications. While thrilling to a high degree, tho houmorous side of tho situation is never for a moment forgotten. The two final performances of Shistl’s Marionettes will be given 10-raorrom On Saturday the' r ßegent Revels,’ a stage presentation on an elaborate scale, will hold sway. This unique presentation will he a whirlwind stage show of music, song, and dance. Mildred and Connie, Dm sensational acrobatic dancers, will introduce an extremely novel net, and the Sydney Regent Ballet will round off what .promises to be an exceptionally delightful entertainment.
