SERiSUS CHARGES Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. PARIS, December 12. M. Doumcr caused a sensation in the Senate by announcing that the Minister of Justice was seeking authority to take lognl proceedings against Madame Kioto. ‘ Le Temps ’ alleges that the charges include littering cheques to the value of £1,720 when there wore insufficient funds to meet them, and forging signatures to bills of exchange.—Australian Press Association.
[lt was announced a few days ago that M. Kioto, a brilliant lawyer a financial expert, an cx-Minister, and a signatory of the Versailles Treaty, had been taken to a mental home. The newspapers staled that it was the result of unfortunate financial transactions ami heavy gambling. A vigorous attempt was made to keep tho fact secret, M. Klotz_ for some time, seemed to have lost his sense of the value of money. He gambled for high stakes at a seaside casino, ■ and paid with cheques which were dishonoured. The Paris correspondent of tho ‘ Daily Chronicle ’ stated that Kioto lost 200,000 francs at La Toquet in the late summer, and subsequent gambling losses brought up the total to 8,000,000 francs.]
