SWIMMING FACILITIES
DUHEBJH’S INCREASING HEED SWIMMING CENTRE DISCUSSION The need for increased swimming facilities for the public was again urged at last night’s meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre, it being eventually decided that Messrs J. L. M'Hndoe, P. J Priest, and E. H. James co-operate with Air Hartstonge, of the Primary School Sports Association,_ in waiting on the council with a view to consideration of the question of the need for increased swimming facilities in Dunedin. The meeting was attended by the president (Mr J. L. M'lndoe), Messrs W. P. Loyd, A. Harrod, P. J. Priest, H H. Henderson, W. H. Saunders, E H. James, A. Greig, A. Knights, E C. Isaacs, and the secretary (Mr C. B. Lewis). The matter of improving the accommodation arose as the result of a letter from the secretary of the Schools Swimming Committee of the Otago State Primary School Sports Association, who wrote thanking the centre officials who had assisted in making its carnival so successful, and asked the centre to co-operate in waiting on the council with regard to the fitting of cubicles at the baths so that the removing of them would not be impossible. Mr Hartstonge would represent the association in a deputation. WATER POLO COMPETITION. St. Clair A was drawn to meet Dunedin in the first match of the water polo competition on Saturday night, the other matches in the first round being;—

Tho Batt Cup Harboiu _ Race was fixed for January. 19, and it was decided that the swimmer gaining fastest time bo selected as Otago’s official representative in tho Annette Kellerman Cup ra i. Messrs J. L. M'lndoe, E. H. James, and C. B. Loads were appointed selectors for the centre, and were instructed to recommene. to ■ the committee the team that should be sent to tho New Zealand championships. GENERAL. The St. Kilda Life Saving and Surf Bathing Club was granted affiliation to the’ centre. The Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club was granted permission to stage a carnival at the Municipal Baths on January 24, subject to the programme being approved. The Town Clerk advised that the whole of the seating would have to be removed after the first night of the Otago championships (to-night), so that all the boxes would be available for the Friday evening.—The Chairman pointed out that this would mean that the seating accommodation would have to be re-erected for the Saturday night’s carnival, which had not been necessary in the past.—lt was resolved to make an etfort to see if ono side of seats could not be left on Friday night. The swimming programme for the Broad Bay Regatta on Boxing Day was approved as follows: —Ladies’ plain tlive, men’s plain dive, 50yds junior boys’ handicap, 50yds ladies’ handicap, 100yds dual _ relay handicap, 100yds men’s handicap, 50yds local girls’ handicap (Peninsula residents), 50yds local boys’ handicap (Peninsula residents), and aquaplaning. A letter was received irom Mr W. H. Benson resigning his position as the Otago delegate 'on the New Zealand Council.—it Was decided to accept the resignation with regret, and to place on record appreciation of Mr Benson’s services as delegate for fourteen years.
