NEW TOWN HALL
LAYING OF FOUNDATION STONE
Pour Ministers of the Crown will probably attend the ceremony of the laying of the foundation stone of tlio new Town Hall in Dunedin to-morrow afternoon.
The ceremony will commence with a selection by the Kaikorai Band. The mayoress (Mrs W, B. Taverner) will then place a casket under the stone, and Mr W. Love, representing tho contractors (the Love Construction Company), will present Mrs Taverner with a commemoration casket. After the mayor (Mr W. B. Taverner) lias laid the foundation stone and declared it to bo “well and truly” done, he will be the recipient of a trowel, the presentation being made by Mr Mandeno (representing the architects, Messrs Mandeno and Fraser). The mayor will address the gathering, there will be a short speech by tho Hon. W. D. Stewart, and a dedicatory prayer will bo offered by the Rev. Dr Herrington (president of the Council of Christian Congregations). The Prime Minister will also be asked to maKo a brief address.
The general public arc invited to witness the ceremony, which may be viewed from Moray place. After the ceremony tho mayor will entertain tho invited guests at afternoon tea in the Council Chamber. The ceremony commences at 3 o’clock. The Ministers who will he present will be the Right Hon. J. G. Coates (Prime Minister), the Hon. W. Downie Stewart (Minister of Finance and Customs), (he Hon. A. D. M.'Leod (Minister of Lands), and the Hon. K. S. Williams (Minister of Public Works).
