‘THE SEA DEVIL.’

TO THK EDITOE. Sir, —I noticed in the ‘Stop Press' column in to-night’s ‘ Star ’ that a book, ‘The Sea JJevil,' author Von Luckner, was published in London today. It may interest your readers to know that this book was first published in New Zealand by Messrs Geddis and Blomfield, Observer Printing Works, Auckland, August, 1919. Von Lnckner’s pirate snip was the Seeadler, meaning Sea Eagle. It is a highlycolored account of Von Luckner’s doings, as told by himself, and must bo taken with the proverbial grain of salt. Otherwise it is a very valuable war curio. 1 would not part with my copy for £2O. 1 also have _in my possession a German seaman’s discharge book, signed by Von Muller, of Emden fame, and a photograph of a naval reservist off the notorious raider Moewe, sister ship to the Emden. Please note that this narative was written while Von Luckner was inturned on Motuiki Island, New Zealand.—l am. etc., 694 George street, Dunedin. February 20. [The book may have been expanded. A book, ‘ Count Luckner, the idea Devil,’ by Lowell Thomas, who told the story of Colonel Lawrence, was among the “best sellers” last year in America, and a new edition of it was published there towards the end of the year. The cable did not say that Von Luckner was the author of the volume. —Ed. E.S.J , *
