NEW SWIMMING BATHS
PROPOSAL BEFORE CITY COUNCIL NEW SHALLOW POOL Dunedin swimmers are urging 4lie City Council to construct a new shallow bath behind the Municipal Baths in Moray place, ami, according to reports made to last night’s meeting of the centre, investigations arc already being made into the feasibility of the proposal. The Chairman (Mr J, L. M‘lndue) said that the centre had discussed, at a previous meeting, the necessity for additional bathing facilities in the city. He had written to the City Council urging it to purchase a piece of vacant land adjoining the baths, on which could be erected a shallow pool. He had stressed the greater interest in tho sport as a result'of Dunedin being the venue for tho last national championships. There was a need for increased bathing and seating capacity at the baths. Especially on mixed bathing nights the baths were now dangerous for children and beginners. His suggestion was that a new shallow pool could be used by women, children, and beginners, and thus allow the general public to go swimming when the main baths were made available for private (Hasses and schools. At present there was a grave risk of a person in difficulty being unnoticed, owing to the noise and crowd. Members passed a motion approving of the chairman's action. Mr E. G. James stated that he understood that the proposal had already been favorably discussed, while others also submitted brief reports.
