LARGEST CARGO FROM LOS ANGELES [Tub United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 2IL The tramp steamer iligh"ate, Irom Los Angeles, berthed at Wellington yesterday morning to commence discharge of the largest cargo of bitumen ever despatched in a single ship from the port of Los Angeles. The 2,200 tons of bitumen which constitute the greater portion of the Higbgate’s cargo, not only secure a tonnage record, hut portion of it is also the largest deck cargo that has ever been carried from the American port. .The bitumen, which is consigned to Wellington City Council, appears to be in excellent condition, all the visible barrels on deck being intact, despite the fact that the vessel experienced hot weather across the pacific, and, during the last few days of the voyage, strong southerly gales.
