FRENCH SHIPBUILDING
GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE PROPOSED LONDON, February 29. (Received March 1, at 1.30 a.m.) The Paris correspondent of ‘ The Times ’ reports that M. Tardieu introduced a Bill authorising the Government to grant special term credits of approximately £1,000,000 yearly for five years, to assist the shipbuilding industry. It was pointed out that France, since the war, nas built 1,000,000 tons, bringing her mercantile tonnage to 3,500,000." The losses during the last triennium exceeded construction, and financial assistance is necessary to enable France to maintain her position. —‘ The Times.’
