CARRIED INTO COURT

WELSH MURDER TRIAL LONDON, February 28. William Maynard was carried into the court at Bude, doubled up in a mattress and covered with a rug. Though a doctor certified that he was perfectly able to appreciate the proceedings, Maynard continued to writhe and groan, as though in agony, throughout the formal proceedings. The case was adjourned. Maynard later recovered sufficiently to walk steadily. [Maynard, who is a rabbit trapper in the district, is charged with the murder of Richard Roadley, a wealthy recluse, who was found battered to death.]
