AMATEUR SWIMMING
OTAGO CENTRE’S MEETING Last night’s meeting of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association was attended by the following:—Messrs J. L. M’lndoe (chairman), W. H. Saunders, E. G. James, A. H. Knights, R. Hector, D. Bannatyne, and C. B. Lewis (hon. secretary) • , The Wellington Centro wrote thanking Otago for the hospitality extended to the northern visitors during the national championships. Mr Baxter O’Neill, secretary of the New Zealand Council, wrote that parents of intermediates and juniors at the last championships had expressed the opinion that if the dates for future championships were altered from January to February their support would not be forthcoming, owing to the children attending school. The council requested the centre to obtain the views of parents as to the wisdom of making a change. Mr M'lndoe said the centre was > taking a common-sense course in obtaining opinions on the decision made by the conference. He did not welcome the change. If intermediate and junior swimmers had not competed at the championships recently held at Dunedin the Otago Centro would not have been able to stage such excellent programmes. Tho centre decided that the delegates obtain the views of parents and report to the next meeting. The Town Clerk advised that the centre’s application for the uso of the municipal baths on Wednesday evenings during tho hours of 8.45 and 9.45, for the purpose of holding polo practice, had been approved.
