The Oreti left yesterday afternoon tor Invercargill and Port Craig. A radio report lias been received from the Devon, on route from Antwerp lo New Zealand, stating that- she will arrive ar Auckland early on Saturday morning
Advice received states that ilio Andrew Weir steamer Yoscrie left Banbury on February 21 with a cargo ol hardwood tor Auckland. The vessel, formerly known as (lie War Parrot, was built in 1918 by Eir J. Laing, ol Sunderland, and is registered as 5,240 tons gross. She should arrive at Auckland about March 5. THE FERRY SERVICE, The Maori, from Wellington, arrival at Lyttelton at 6.55 a.in. to-day, and southern passengers and mails connected with the first express. TUG' FOR NEW PLYMOUTH. Fourteen tenders have been received by the New Plymouth Harbor Board for the construction of (he proposed lug-dredger Ngamotu. The time for tendering expired last month, and in accordance with the board's instructions the tenders are now being considered by the resident engineer, who is to submit a report to the next meeting of the hoard. The tenders include eight. Scottish firms, four English, one Australian, and a British firm in China. The lowest is a firm of repute which has used the board’s plans and ■specifications in their entirety. The lime for building and delivery varies from eight to fourteen months.
PIAKO RIVER LIGHT. The Marino Department advises that a concrete throo-pilo beacon, lUlt high, has been erected on the eastern side of the Piako River outer entrance channel in a depth of IK of water. Midchannel, where the depth is between 3ft and 4ft at low water, is about 2911 from the beacon. PERSONAL. Captain J. L. B. An arrival at Auckland last evening was the steamer Herminins from Antwerp with a cargo of basic slag, On completion of discharge at Auckland the steamer will commence loading tor Home ports, completing at Gisborne, New Plymouth, AVanganui, Wellington, and Port Chalmers. She should leave this port finally on April 1 ior London, Avonmonth, Glasgow, and Liverpool via Panama. AVESTAIOR ELAND AT AUCKLAND. Telegraphic advice slates that the AVestmoreland arrived at Auckland yesterday afternoon from Liverpool. The vessel has cargo for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and New Plymouth, She is duo here about Marcli .15. A FURTHER P.OSTPONEMENT. The local agents for (lie Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Arnwa advise a further postponement in the vessel’s sailing date.
