END OF SUMMER TIME
CARE WITH THE CLOCKS

WELLINGTON. February 27,
Tho following statement tvas issued to-day by Dr C. E. Adams, Government Astronomer and Seismologist:— “ i have to report that in accordance with tho Summer Time Ant the period of summer time will end ap 2 a.m., New Zealand standard time, on the morning of Sunday, March 4. This time is equivalent to J a.m. summer time, ft will then ho necessary for all clocks to he put back one hour. In the case oi striking clocks great care will he necessary to sec that the striking mechanism is not put out of order. Tho simplest ami safest method Jor pul ting the clock hack one hour is to move it forward eleven hours, care being taken to see that the clock strikes the full chimes and hours as it_ is moved forward. In the case of public clocks it would be desirable to muffle tho sound of the striking while this is being done, f have to recommend that this information be placed before the controlling authorities of all public clocks in New Zealand.’'
