MISPLACED ADVERTISEMENTS.

10 ME EEITOU. Sir, —I should like to add my voice to those who recently made what 1 think was a just complaint that some of the finest drives in the vicinity ol the city were being spoiled, from an aesthetic point of view, by blatant advertisements lining the roadsides, i'ar from seeing any lessening of this evil, we are now witnessing another bold encroachment ol the advertising octopus. At the concerts recently given bv the incomparable (.'herniavsky Trio, the audiences have had thrust upon them a gaudy and unsightly advertisement ringed up at the side ot tiro etage. AVe can readily conceive the value of advertising god pianos, hut maintain that the concert platform is not the place to erect hoardings; and no matter how well it may pay the theatrical authorities to allow this, wo arc sure t hat the musical public of .Dunedin would prefer all advertisements to keep to their legitimate sphere—the programme-and not mount the stage, which is the domain ol art, not commercialism. —T am, etc., .MrsicAJFebruary ‘27.
