OUTING FOR ORPHANS

PROMOTED BY OTAGO MOTOR CLUB By the courtesy of the Dunedin Jockey Club, which placed its fine property at Wlngatui at the disposal of the Otago Motor Club for Saturday afternoon, about 300 children and their attendants were entertained at the annual outing given by the Motor Club to the inmates of ths various orphanages in Dunedin. Sixty cars carried the happy youngsters to the course, where every enjoyment practicable was provided. Tho principal event was a competition entitled “Now you see it, now you don’t.” It is a game which enabled every child to take part. Owing to the largo number of entries and the pace set by some of the fleeter ones, fear was felt by some of the grown-up onlookers that an accident might occur, but, thanks to keen oversight first aid was not called for. The secretary of the motor club discovered a champion, and is prepared to match him against all comers in a competition to be held next year. The weather was all that could be dff ’ ed, and the car owners who so kindlv answered the call of the club for the day found great pleasure and ample reward in the knowledge that they had helped to give a happy time to their dear ■ little guests, whose, behaviour was iu every way a credit to the institution they belonged to. Mr Ansell, tho president of the Motor Club, was present, and at the afternoon tea adjournment, in a few words, thanked all who had assisted, and at tho same time expressed the pleasure the members had experienced that afternoon in giving tho outing. Mr Power says the executive of the,Motor Club adds to fba acknowledgment to all who helped a hope that the annual outing next year will be again made possible" under s}m same felicitous condijgegja.
