Some time ago, the Mosgiel Traders Association sought the help of the borough council to protect local tradespeople from tho interference with business by hawkers, and usked tho licensing of these be looked into. At a special meeting of the council the clerk reported tho case of a hawker canvassing without a license. It was resolved that tho man bo written to asking him to carry out the clerk s instructions to pay the license fee; if this were not done, a prosecution would follow.—ln response to a question, the clerk mentioned that he had the copies of the by-laws of scvehil boroughs governing hawkers to lay on ths table next committee night.
