Heavy rain fell throughout the night, but stopped at 9 o’clock this morning, when the men squadded preparatory to the Wellington match; consequently there will be no results available until the afternoon. A progress report of the leading ten optional aggregate scores iu the belt matches, counting as follows, is: —H. Hunt (Suburbs) 434, H. Feast (Greytown) 432, W. West (Bciiwick) 432, F. Clung (Karori) 431, J. Paterson (Wanganui) 431, E. King (Wanganui) 429, 0. Nix (Featherston) 429, A. O’Honuell (Petone) 428, F. James (Napier) 428, L. Benton (Featherston) 427. The position m the loading ten teams competing in the Billo Club champion team match (open to teams of five from any defence club in New Zealand) is as follows (all scores in the belt match count except the final ten shots): — Petone (No. 1) 1,109. Featherston 1,09(3, Wanganui A 1,091. Suburbs (No. 1) 1,087, Christchurch (No. 1) 1,086, Linton A 1,083, Karori (No. 1) 1,079, Groytown 1,070, Pctono (No. 2) 1,063, Ashburton 1,061. Last year the match was won by Petone No. 1 with an aggregate score of 2,310, Ashburton next with 2,294. The following is the New Zealand team chosen to compete in the Gordon Highlanders’ trophy against the Australians:— H. Marshall (Karori, captain), H. Simmonds (Paeroa), F. Soler (Wanganui), F. Jeune (Gisborne), F. James (Napier), 11. Hester (Suburbs), E. Ballinger (Petone), F. Hood (Featherston), and H. Hunt (Suburbs). It is now raining.
