MEETING AT TRENTHAM SATURDAY’S HATCHES GOOD SCORES REGISTERED. (Pk« CutTED Press Association.* WELLJ.NGTON, February 25. The weather was line all day [or the second day of the real tussle lor the belt, and some good scores were recorded, and also a lot of poor ones that caused much disappointment. - The varying light was a contributing cause to many of the falls, and the wind, though seemingly light, also played a considerable part. It was so. fair, indeed, that many of the men were tempted to disregard it to their subsequent sorrow. .\s one such altcrwards put it; “1 reckoned the wind was there, but J wouldn’t believe it.” The. men were asked to do a big task to-day. They finished the Marlborough Match, which was partly fired yesterday, and then got through the Auckland and Canterbury Matches.
W. M'lver, of Rctone, carried off both the Marlborough and Auckland Matches. In the first he put on two 4S’s. his card reading as follows;—300 yards, 5554545555; 500 yards, 5555545554 In the Auckland Match he had two 47’s as follows:—300 yards, 5544555554; 600 yards, 5455544555. On the two matches this put him in a strong position, but he fell away in the Canterbury Match, which was won hy Brvdcn, of Kaiapoi, with 47, made up t0'5535455555. Mi'nchin. a tyro from Umutokc, gave him a hot chase, finishing with the same total, his shots reading 5555444555, so that Brydon owed his first place to the count back. At the close of the afternoon the weather was almost perfect, and promises to remain so indefinitely. The standard of the shooting so far this year is better than it was last year, when the weather conditions were very uncertain. The Auckland Match, A grade, last year was won by E. King (Wanganui) with 91, and 85’s were counted. In 1926 Tilson (Greytown) won with 97, and til’s were counted out, and in 1925 R. Harrison (Hawera) won with 96, while some 90’s had to stand out of the prize money. In the Marlborough Match at 500 yards Holmes (Wanganui) registered the first possible. The short-range matches will he concluded on Monday morning, and will determine the winner of the Trcntham aggregate. Results;—
