CARNIVAL IN MELBOURNE,

DOMINION LADIES’ SUCCESSES.

MELBOURNE, February 26. At the women’s swimming championships the 100yds back-stroke championship resulted:—Miss E. Stockley (New Zealand) 1, Miss E. Robertson (New South Wales) 2. W r on by Byds. Time, Imin 22sec.

The 220yds free-style championship resulted:—Miss K. Miller (New Zealand) 1, Miss Davey (New South Wales) 2, Miss B. Taiv (New South Wales) 3. W 7 on by 4yds. Time, 2min 52 3-sscc.

The eveuts were swum at Surrey Drive. Miss Miller led from the start in the 220yds from Miss Taw. At 75yds she increased the lead to a yard, and 40yds from the finish she had the race well in hand. She swam a welljudged race. Miss Mealing (New South Whiles) led at the start of the hack-stroke championship, and appeared the likely winner, but at 50yds she veered across the course and over the barrier. Miss Stockley kept a good course,-and came home a winner by Byds. Miss Mealing did not complete the course. The New Zealand swimmers’ ability was commented upon in terms of high praise during the carnival.

SWEDISH COMPETITOR’S SUCCESS,

SYDNEY, February 25. (Received February 27, at 9 a.ra.) B. Rybeck, a Swedish competitor, won the Amateur Athletic Association’s pencathlon championship, the first held in Australia.
