Grimmett arrived by tho second express last night with tho Australian cricket team it was his first visit to his native city since his rise to international fame in the cricket field, filr Grimmett (according to ‘ Wisden ’) was born in Caversham on Christmas Day, 1892. Some of our cricket officials conceived the happy idea of taking advantage of the famous bowler’s presence in Dunedin and presenting him witli a memento of the occasion. Tbo form of the presentation is also a happy one. On a greenstone slab are throe greenstone '.stumps on a silver wicket. One of tho stumps is knocked back, the bails and bail lying near by, and on the wicket are inscribed the words “ Well bowled.” On the slab also aro the coat of arms of Dunedin city, and r. silver fern, the inscription on tho latter reading: “To C. V. Grimmett from the cricketers of his native city.” The combination appears to sum up in a particularly happy and effective manner the sentiments which have prompted the presentation. The memento is on view in the window of Messrs Dawson, Ltd., who are responsible for its manufacture. It is proposed to present it to Mr Grimmett at some suitable lime during tlie progress of the match with Otajio at Carisbrook.
